By Margaret: The main business at the recent meeting of Glossopdale Womens’ Institute was the National Federation’s proposed Resolution urging all Members, countrywide, to support local shops.  Glossopdale Members felt that they were luckier than many other Institutes in that here in Glossop there is still an above average number and range of small shops.  But it was acknowledged that even here it is still a question of ‘use them or lose them’ and the Resolution was approved unanimously by the Members.

Glossopdale Institute has been growing rapidly in the last years, so Members were then encouraged to speak briefly about themselves so that the older members could become better acquainted with the more recent additions to their number and conversely the newcomers could learn a bit more about long established Members.

Then at coffee time, all Members sampled cakes  in their annual competition.  The winner of the Institute’s shield for this annual event was Anja and the Association for Countrywomen Worldwide benefited from the cash donated in support of Members’ favourite cakes.  Perhaps after such a good excuse for over indulgence it was not too surprising that only four Members kept up the tradition of going out for lunch after the meeting!

The next Meeting will be held on Wednesday 19th June at 9.30a.m. at the Labour Club, when local artist Cathy Carr will be talking about her speciality, Glass Art.  All ladies are welcome to join us.
