By Margaret:  At their last meeting, the Members of Glossopdale Womens’ Institute were entertained by Janis Birchall and her video about a visit she made to Northumberland with a group of friends to celebrate her 60th birthday.   The weather sadly was not too good and Bamburgh Castle and the village of Craster were shrouded in mist, but the day Jan and her friends sailed out to the Farne Islands, it was sunny and Members were fascinated by film of seals, nesting guillemots, cormorants and, above all, the comical puffins, bobbing in and out of their burrows as they tried to escape marauding gulls.  Jan’s party was directly attacked by terns whose technique is to swoop down to, and even on, the heads of whoever they regard as intruders to their territory.   Cleverly edited, with poetry and music added, the film kept Members far away from the bitter cold of a Glossop morning.

Glossopdale WI meets in the morning, especially for women who are a little concerned about going out alone in the evening, at the Labour Club.   The next Meeting is on Wednesday 20th February at 9.30a.m., when the speaker will be Gordon Gange, a former player in the Philharmonic Orchestra, who will be talking about his ‘Travels with a Violin’.   All ladies are welcome to come and visit a friendly group.
